Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio is known as the Roller Coaster Capital of the World — and for good reason. With 17 roller coasters and dozens of thrill rides, it is one of the most coaster-dense parks on the planet. Cedar Point skews toward older riders and thrill seekers, with height requirements that are generally higher than Disney or Universal parks. That said, the park has been expanding its family offerings in recent years, and there are options for younger guests. Knowing the height requirements in advance is essential for planning a Cedar Point trip with kids.

How Cedar Point Measures Height

Cedar Point uses measuring sticks at ride entrances. Guests may wear shoes but must remove hats. Cedar Point does not issue wristbands for borderline guests — your child will be measured at each ride. Some rides have electronic height measurement displays for added accuracy. Ride operators make the final call on whether a guest meets the requirement. Cedar Point's parent company, Cedar Fair, uses consistent measurement practices across all their parks.

Key Height Thresholds at Cedar Point

Cedar Point has 20 active rides. Unlike Disney and Universal, nearly every ride at Cedar Point has a height requirement — only 0 rides have no minimum. The most common threshold is 48 inches, which unlocks many of the park's signature coasters. At 52 inches, guests can ride Steel Vengeance and Top Thrill 2 — two of the park's most famous attractions. Cedar Point is best suited for children who are at least 48 inches tall, though younger guests will find some family coasters and flat rides at lower thresholds.

Cedar Point offers a Rider Swap program at most rides with height requirements. One adult waits in a designated area while the other rides, then they switch without waiting in line again. Ask a ride operator at the entrance for details.
