Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT is Disney World's first reverse-launch coaster and one of its most thrilling attractions. This indoor roller coaster features a backwards launch, rotating ride vehicles that pivot to face the action, and a synchronized soundtrack from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. It opened in 2022 and has quickly become one of EPCOT's signature rides.

Cosmic Rewind Height Requirement

The minimum height requirement for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is 42 inches (3 feet 6 inches / 107 centimeters). The ride uses an over-the-shoulder lap bar restraint on rotating Omnicoaster vehicles. Riders must be 42 inches for the restraint to properly secure them during the backwards launch and subsequent coaster maneuvers. This is slightly lower than many coasters of similar intensity, making it accessible to more children.

Height Conversion

42 inches equals 3 feet 6 inches, or 107 centimeters (1.07 meters). Most children reach 42 inches between ages 4 and 6. At Disney World, 42 inches is a less common threshold — Cosmic Rewind is one of the few rides at exactly this height. It sits between the 40-inch family rides (Big Thunder Mountain, Test Track) and the 44-inch thrill rides (Space Mountain, Expedition Everest).

What to Expect on Cosmic Rewind

Cosmic Rewind is an indoor coaster that takes place in a planetarium-themed environment with projection screens and lighting effects. After a themed queue through the Galaxarium (an intergalactic pavilion), guests board Omnicoaster vehicles that can rotate 360 degrees while traveling along the track. The ride begins with a reverse launch — you accelerate backwards into the main show building. The coaster then twists and turns through space-themed scenes with a synchronized Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack (one of several random songs plays each ride). There are no inversions, but the rotating vehicles create a sense of constant motion. The ride is smooth, thrilling, and visually spectacular. It lasts about 3 minutes.

Tips for Riding Cosmic Rewind with Kids

Cosmic Rewind currently uses a virtual queue system — you may need to join a virtual queue via the My Disney Experience app at 7:00 AM or 1:00 PM, or purchase an Individual Lightning Lane. Standby queues may be available during lower-crowd periods. The backwards launch is the most intense moment; let your child know about it in advance. The rotating vehicles can cause motion sickness in some guests because you are constantly pivoting while the coaster moves. If your child is prone to motion sickness, consider having them try Test Track (40 inches) first as a warm-up. The ride is smooth with no hard jolts or jarring drops.

Similar Rides

If your child enjoys Cosmic Rewind, they are ready for most Disney World thrill rides. Similar experiences include Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom (44 inches, indoor coaster in the dark), Slinky Dog Dash at Hollywood Studios (38 inches, outdoor family coaster), and Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom (44 inches, coaster with a backwards section). For a step up in intensity, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios (48 inches) features a high-speed launch and inversions.
