SaveLast updated: March 1, 2026
Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is consistently voted one of the best theme parks in the world by enthusiasts and families alike. Owned by Dolly Parton, the park blends Smoky Mountain charm with world-class coasters like Lightning Rod, Wild Eagle, and the Big Bear Mountain family coaster. Dollywood strikes an excellent balance between family-friendly attractions and thrilling coasters, with strong options at every height threshold. The park is also known for its exceptional food, live entertainment, and Splash Country water park.
How Dollywood Measures Height
Dollywood uses measuring sticks at ride entrances. Guests may wear shoes but must remove hats. Dollywood does not use wristbands or a universal measurement system — your child will be measured at each ride with a height requirement. Ride hosts make the final determination. Dollywood is operated by Herschend Family Entertainment and maintains high safety standards across all attractions.

Key Height Thresholds at Dollywood
Dollywood has 14 active rides. Only 0 rides have no minimum height requirement. Dollywood has a nice spread of requirements across different heights: family coasters start at 36 inches, mid-level thrill rides open up at 39–42 inches, and the big coasters require 48 inches. Unlike Cedar Point or Six Flags parks, Dollywood's tallest requirements generally cap at 48 inches, making the park more accessible to a wider range of children.
Dollywood offers a rider swap service at most rides with height requirements. One adult rides while the other waits with the child, then they swap. Dollywood also has excellent shows and craftspeople demonstrations throughout the park — great options for younger guests who cannot ride the bigger coasters.
